The basic format
India's country code is +91. To call India from abroad, dial your country's international access code (or + on a mobile), then 91, then the number.
- Mobile: + 91 followed by the 10-digit mobile number
- Landline: + 91, then the city's STD code without its leading 0, then the local number
For example, a Delhi landline written locally as 011 2345 6789 is dialled from abroad as +91 11 2345 6789.
Mind the time difference
India uses a single time zone, Indian Standard Time (IST), which is UTC +5:30 all year. India does not change its clocks for daylight saving, so the gap with countries that do will shift twice a year.
Cheaper ways to call
- Internet calling and messaging apps over Wi-Fi
- International add-on packs from your mobile operator
- Calling cards and VoIP services with per-minute rates
